Katie Nelson, M.A.

My passion for counseling began as I wrestled with the suffering and pain that has been so much a part of my own life. The tension of deep heartache and desperate desire for more is something I have had to gradually learn to embrace, instead of resist. My own story has taught me that we cannot experience the joys of life without being willing to engage the dark places. However, we cannot do this alone. We were made for intimacy and community, and the pain that so often occurs in the context of relationships finds healing there as well. Engaging the broken places takes not only companionship, but also courage. Seeing the courage in others is perhaps the thing I love most about counseling. Few feel they have it, but I am consistently amazed at how talking about life in a safe place can bring hope for more. I consider it an honor to walk with people through the trials of life to discover the hidden places of their hearts and of this world, where both beauty and joy reside.

Specific areas I am passionate about working with include trauma/PTSD, abuse, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, marital strain, sexual issues, family/relational issues, and spiritual concerns. My husband Ben and I have been married for 11 years and have 2 children.
